Description
This article discusses the issues of folk calendars and holidays in Badakhshan, Tajikistan. Based on the results of field research and the work of a number of scientists, the authors show that the folk calendars and holidays in Rushans and Shugnan differ from the calendars and the process of celebrating the traditional holidays of other regions. In the Rushan language and Shugnan dialect, folk calendars were mainly used for determining the time using special signs and marks, dividing the time of the day into parts, dedicating days of the week to saints, and determining the seasons by part of the human body.
To study the traditional calendars and holidays in Rushan and Shugnan is very important for modern Tajik ethnography. Because most of the calendars and characteristic ceremonies of the traditions of national holidays are threatened with extinction and oblivion.
