Description
A rich and incisive analysis of person, time, and identity among Karawari speakers of Ambonwari village through the examination of everyday practices, language, social institutions, kinship, myths, spirits, rituals, and dances. Ambonwari cosmology is centered on the concept of kay 'being,' 'habit,' and 'custom.'. It entails the most secular habits of an individual, as well as the most complex collective ceremonies and rituals. Kay relates the present with the past and future. This work also challenges certain fundamental analytical categories and epistemological assumptions of the West.
